Vilalta Studio presents the new PANOT EIXAMPLE, an innovative reinterpretation of the iconic Barcelona pavement. Inspired by the fractal geometry of the Eixample´s urban plan, this new design fuses sustainability and functionality to adapt to the city’s current needs.
Barcelona’s Eixample is characterized by its fractal and isotropic layout, where geometry repeats at different scales, reflecting nature’s self-similarity. The new PANOT EIXAMPLE incorporates this essence into its design, integrating the forms of Barcelona’s urbanism into a 20×20 cm piece, allowing the city to maintain its identity at various scales.
In addition to its design, the PANOT EIXAMPLE is highly adaptable to different urban environments. Its structure transforms according to usage and permeability needs, offering various thickness configurations to support both vehicular traffic and pedestrian passage. The versatility of this pavement allows for the incorporation of permeable spaces, facilitating water filtration and the integration of vegetation, making the pavement a key element in developing a greener, more sustainable city.
The commitment to sustainability is also reflected in the materials used. The new PANOT EIXAMPLE is made with Hempcrete, an innovative eco-friendly material composed of natural hemp fibers, lightweight aggregates and natural fluidifying additives. This material has zero carbon emissions, high compressive strength and slip-resistant properties, ensuring optimal performance in various urban environments.
Currently, the PANOT EIXAMPLE is in the testing phase, undergoing quality trials to ensure its durability and resistance before its implementation in the city. With this project, Vilalta Studio reaffirms its commitment to responsible design, innovation and the creation of urban solutions that respect Barcelona’s historical legacy while addressing future challenges.
