Lideta Mercato Featured in DW News

Lideta Mercato, designed by Vilalta Studio in Addis Ababa, continues to gain international recognition. This time, it has been highlighted in an article by Deutsche Welle as one of the most representative works of African architecture.

The project reinterprets the concept of the traditional Ethiopian market within a contemporary building, combining functionality, sustainability, and cultural identity. Its perforated facade, inspired by local textile patterns, not only gives the building a unique identity but also regulates light and ventilation, ensuring a comfortable environment without relying on artificial cooling systems.

Additionally, the structure promotes social interaction with an open design that favors natural air circulation and visual connection between different levels.

This new recognition reinforces the importance of Lideta Mercato as a benchmark of sustainable and contextually relevant architecture in Africa. At Vilalta Studio, we remain committed to creating spaces that respect and enhance their cultural and climatic surroundings.
